Arrowe Park Dialysis Unit > Dialysis Unit

Mike Pringle and Lauren Gould

The Renal Unit at Arrowe Park is the main site for renal patients within the catchment area of Wirral, Chester and Ellesmere Port. Occasionally we have patients from North Wales.

If you are a new dialysis patient, you may begin your dialysis on ward 31 at Arrowe Park Hospital. Once your condition is stable you may have your dialysis there or be transferred to one of our satellite units at Clatterbridge or the Countess of Chester. This ensures that Ward 31 has enough space to cater for acute poorly patients.

The haemodialysis area has 19 dialysis machines. The unit offers haemofiltration, haemodiafiltration and plasma exchanges as and when necessary.

Patients are allocated a slot at 7.30am, 1.30pm or 7.30pm. The treatment is usually four hours long and three times a week. The last slot is known as the ‘twilight’ and is great for those patients who work in the daytime and would prefer their dialysis in the evening.
